The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is situated in Northwest
Africa. Approximately three quarters of Mauritania is desert
or semi desert.
Since the mid 60’s there has been
severe drought resulting in the desert expanding more every
year. The population is over 3 million of which 40% are mixed
Arab/Black, 30% Arab and 30% Black.
The largest city and capital of Mauritania
is Nouakchott, located on the Atlantic coast of the Sahara
Desert.
